Karen Smith has worked with children for over 30 years. Karen started with teaching Sunday School and church camps, then going on to teachers’ college to study Early Childhood. She worked as a primary school teacher for nine years before having her first child. She moved into childcare when enrolling her daughter into care. An opportunity arose to teach in the preschool room as well as being the Director of the centre.
As the company grew and embraced the Montessori philosophy, Karen assisted in the opening of their three centres. She stepped up to the role of Operations Manager to assist other centres to grow and reach their potential. Karen has been a trainer for both Certificate III and Diploma levels in Early Childhood and has enjoyed imparting her experiences and sharing knowledge with students.
Karen has continued to study throughout her career. She recently completed her Montessori ‘Assistants to Infancy 0-3’ Diploma. The Diploma has taught Karen to better understand the Montessori philosophy that each child is unique and we need to give them the best opportunity to grow and be able to do things themselves.
